Last time on Dragon- Chainsaw Man, we were introduced to Denji, Pochita, Power, Aki, and Makima. We learned a little about devils and devil hunters. Things left off with Power being eaten by the Bat Devil after she went searching for her cat, Meowy. Denji was trying to save her since she made a deal with him that she’d let him grab her boobs if he did. Gotta love shonen.
SUMMARY
Now, we’re on volume 2! Things were heated from beginning to end. Denji wraps up his battle with the Bat Devil and saves Meowy. Power is really confused the whole time because she didn’t understand why someone would risk their life just to squeeze some boobs. But, let’s remember that Denji is a 16 year old kid who has never known warmth or love. He’s just happy to get a hot meal and bed to sleep in. Afterwards, the rest of the safety public devil hunters arrive and we get to meet two new faces; Kobeni, Himeno, and Arai.

Denji is in the hospital after one of his arms falls off but luckily after a blood transfusion, it seemed to regenerate. Aki is there basically telling him that he will work with him only if he does exactly what he says. Denji, the ever happy-go-lucky teenager states that he doesn’t really care as long as he can reach his dream (touching boobs). When they get back to Aki’s place, they discover that Power and Meowy will also be living with them, which Aki strongly protests against.

The next few scenes just show the trio having to adjust to living with one another. Then, Power tells Denji he can collect on his reward by squeezing her boobs. Denji is beside himself with curiosity and treats this mission seriously. Of course, it wouldn’t be a normal situation if Power didn’t play tricks by stuffing her bra. I don’t know, this is just a scene you’ll have to see yourself. After this, Denji realizes his “dream” wasn’t up to par. He reached it and just felt ‘meh’.

Letting Makima know this, she propositions him. She tells him all about the notorious Gun Devil that has plagued the world and killed millions. If he kills it, she will grant Denji whatever one wish he has.
Denji, of course, is still down bad and agrees. Not really taking into account how strong this devil is, he thinks it will be a piece of cake. The team gets notified about a devil holding hostages at a nearby hotel and they roll out. I do love how most of the main trio’s interactions are like a dad and his two kids.

Finally, this is where we get some background history on two of our characters, Aki and Himeno. We learn that both have contracts with devil. They gave something up in order to control them for their power (Himeno her right eye for the ‘Ghost Devil’ and Aki feeds his devil apart of him, this time his skin). We also learn that Aki’s entire family had been killed by the Gun Devil and all of Himeno’s past partners have all died in the line of duty.
The main trio along with Himeo, Arai, and Kobeni go to the hotel where they discover the devil manipulates not only time but the space they’re in. In a page turning cliffhanger, the devil gives them an ultimatum; sacrifice Denji to them and everyone else gets to walk free.

Characters
This volume we were given an extra three characters we hadn’t seen before!
Himeno

She is Aki’s partner who has a devil contract with the Ghost Devil. Himeno wears an eyepatch over her right eye that she sacrificed to the ghost devil. My first impressions of her was that she had both a silly and serious side. She also likes to tease Denji by promising him if he takes care of the devil at the hotel, she’ll give him a kiss (with tongue).
Kobeni Higashiyama

I’m not sure what to make her quite yet. So far she’s only shown that shes timid and shy but according to Himeno, her superior, she’s quite skilled. We didn’t get to see much of her except towards the last chapter where she basically freaked out to the point Himeno had to knock her out. Also, she’s part of the cliffhanger as she is seen with a knife and seemingly about to turn on Denji.
Arai Hirokazu

Another character that hasn’t shown us much but seems to be one of those ‘justice-duty-responsibility over everything’ types. There’s a hint of infatuation with him and Himeno. I say this because while Denji was getting pumped at the idea of French kissing, Arai was appalled that she would do that since she isn’t married. He also stated that he owed her since she saved his life so there must be some kind of backstory there.
Highlights

- Aki’s Backstory
- Introduced Devil contracts
- GUN DEVIL
Conclusion
This was a great continuation from the last volume. Unfortunately, there was no real big character development happening here. I feel as though this was another introductory volume since we were learning about a lot of new things. The devil contracts are the most interesting because it seems to me you have to give up something huge in order to get one. It will be interesting to see the ongoing battle between devils and devil hunters. Especially since it seems most devil hunters have devil powers themselves.
Since it did continue on nicely and gave us a lot to look forward to, I’m rating this volume
