Summary
This week’s manga Monday focuses on CSM. So far we’ve come to a point where I have no idea where the story is going yet. We’ve met a variety of characters but they just keep dropping like flies honestly. We last were left with Reze and Denji together after we discovered Reze is also after his heart. I mean that literally and figuratively. Distracting him with her…charms, Reze reveals her true nature as she kisses him and bites part of his tongue off.

Luckily for Denji, Beam was just around the corner (lord knows how long he was just lurking in the water) and comes out to help his master. He instantly smells a bomb to which causes Reze to show her true form, the Bomb Devil. Beam helps Denji to get away even though he’s badly damaged in the process. To be honest, I’m still cheering for her guys, HEAR ME OUT. She’s obviously going along with a mission so she can’t just go with her feelings. I’d still put her leagues above Makima in terms of likeability. As long as she doesn’t actually kill him, I’m still #TeamReze *shrug*.
The next few panels show Aki training and of course his good ol’ pal Angel is right beside him. Those two act like they hate each other but my soul can sense the love. We also get to learn something pretty important after Aki converses with a subordinate from his former division. Nomo declares he will try to make Vice Captain in 5 years and try to recruit Aki back over. However, Angel overhears this and asks Aki if the others know he won’t be alive in 5 years. When asked who told him that Angel states it was Power. I can imagine her just running around, telling everyone’s business.

Beam apparently brings Denji to their location and Aki is bought up to speed on the situation. He basically tells Aki that Bomb and Gun devil are allies and when Aki ask him how he knows this, he states he will be killed if he tells and he made a promise to Makima. How everyone didn’t put 2 and 2 together to get 4 is beyond me. Like, she’s clearly doing some shady stuff.
Unfortunately, Reze makes her way to their location as well. She killed me trying to portray the ‘innocent onlooker’ act and not a single person bought it so she was just like ‘ehh, screw it’ and tries to kill everyone. Some guys in suits named Kato and Tanabe arrive and somehow implant mold in her heart and intestines. I’m no scientist or doctor but that doesn’t sound healthy. Reze pulls her (I had to look up what it’s called), pin and detonates which decapitates her. Everyone thinks she just offed herself and Nomo asks if they can put mold in her brain, to which they stayed they can only infect living things with mold. Rats.

Shockingly, Reze’s body, which is still cool without a head, grabs her bleeding head and throws it. This auses another explosion and she takes out multiple agents. This is actually going to be hilarious animated, I just know it. So, Reze launches her headless body onto Nomo and tries to take him out. At the same time he tries to activate Kon, you know the same devil that Aki has a contract with, but is too slow.
In the end, we get a pretty gruesome sight of Nomo’s torso being held by the Bomb devil. But then in the next few scenes, someone again tries to activate Kon on her and we see it’s Nomo! But it still missed. This is why I think Kon is pretty useless sometimes, like hit your targets! Just as Reze is about to take him out, another agent who ALSO has Kon (this devil gets around, goodness), and actually manages to get her. However, because as I said before Kon sucks, he’s like “Oh, this tastes disgusting, let me spit her out!” In short, they are screwed.

Denji, Beam, Angel, and Aki are all driving away and Angel has to give Denji some of his blood. Reze manages to catch up with them and is carrying Nomo and the Vice Captain’s heads. Brutal. It’s pretty much a chase until finally some back up comes in the form of Violence Devil and Kobeni. Sadly for the others, Violence Devil and Kobeni are cowards.

An epic battles ensues and then Typhoon comes back to aid Reze. Aki finally gets some pep in his step and decides to be useful. Angel is just chilling and revives Denji (again) and Beam tries to give Denji a hint on how to fight Reze. But Denji has no braincells and thinks he means to ride Beam in the Typhoon. Angel is getting blown away by all the chaos but Aki reaches out to grab him. He tells him its fine because he wants to die anyway but Aki grabs him regardless. He states he’s tired of seeing people die in front of him. Then, he realizes his life span decreased but Angel tells him by only 2 months. Dang, now we lost 2 months worth of Aki content.
The battle continues. Denji gets the bright idea of wrapping his chainsaw veins (?) around her and falling into the ocean. They wash up on shore and then Reze realizes Denji revived her. They talk and she insists everything she told him was a lie and for her mission (but IIIIIIII know better). He tells her he’ll be waiting at the cafe they always met at.

Kishibe explains how Reze came to be. Apparently, in the Soviet Union they were basically doing experiments on kids in basements, the end. We see Reze trying to disguise herself to flee but at the last minute she decides to go to the cafe. Unfortunately, she never makes it because the scum of the earth Makima intercepts her and subsequently kills her. Though, I’m a little confused if she killed her or Angel did. Either way, I’m upset.
Then Power makes her presence known at the end by going to the cafe. Denji then eats the flowers he brought and the character ends.

Characters
We didn’t really meet any new characters this time.
Highlights
- Learned a little of Reze’s background
- This was a very action-packed volume!
- Power’s 5 second appearance.
- MORE Angel and Aki bonding.
Conclusion
I loved this volume but I was pretty unsatisfied with the ending. Personally, Reze deserved to live. I have to ask the point in killing her off. I know it’s to help build Makima as a villain but does she really need it? Nothing she can do will change her status. She is evil personified. Really looking forward to the next volume and I’ve posted a link to grab the other volumes also!

Reze is amazing. I was gutted she died too. This was one of my favourite volumes, but I think I say that about each volume going forward. It just gets better and better.
She’s my second favorite female character after Power!
