It’s Friday, you probably ain’t got no job (but we don’t judge if you don’t), you probably ain’t got nothing to do, so you might as well read my list of shows I think look promising this season. Now, I know we’re all waiting for juggernauts; Demon Slayer season 2, Attack on Titan final season part 2, Haikyuu! Season 5 (WHEN?!), and etc, but I wanted to talk about some shows that have just come out and look like that might be a good watch. DISCLAIMER: I have watched a few episodes of some of these already, so I’m judging them based on appearances and what I’ve seen so far. I can’t predict the future so these shows could fall flat but so far they look promising to me so far!
1. Ranking of Kings
Unable to hear or speak, Prince Bojji sets off on an adventure to prove that he’s a worthy heir…with the help of a shadow named Kage.
Via funimation

This show is definitely my favorite so far of the new season. It’s also the first time I’ve seen a shonen anime protagonist who was deaf and sign language was used. It’s really a heartwarming story so far and there’s a lot of twists and turns but I think this will be one of my favorites of the year. It was like episode 2 and I was crying. I was already here for it just reading the description and it turns out the show is equally as amusing and lovely. I like the animation style. It gives me a good storybook feel and the Opening theme is so cute and warm.
If you get a chance please, please, PLEASE, give this show a watch. I highly recommend it. Boji is my son and I will protect him at all costs!
2. The Vampire Dies In No Time
Vampire hunter Ronaldo finds an unlikely ally in Draluc, the world’s weakest vampire who turns to dust at the slightest attack.
via Funimation
Probably the funniest show on the list and is definitely not supposed to be taken seriously at all. It’s your standard shonen comedy and the premise is also good. My favorite thing about it is whenever Draluc dies he goes “Saaand” and I die every time. He truly is the weakest vampire I’ve ever seen. He dies just from shock. If you’re wanting a light-hearted show after watching your favorite mc’s nearly dying and needing therapy, this is a good alternative.
3. Taisho Otome Fairy Tale
Shima Tamahiko has been exiled to the country because of his disability, but the sudden arrival of an arranged bride upends his lonely life.
via funimation

Another heartwarming show on the list, Taisho Otome tells the story of Shima Tamahiko who is unable to use his right hand due to an accident, which basically in those days you’re treated like the plague and deemed useless. His father abandons him and sends him to live alone away, treating him as if he were “dead.” He, later on, meets Yuzuki Tachibana who was actually sold off to him to be his bride and the show is basically showing them getting closer together and dealing with the world around them.
It is a cute show that I think fans of romance would appreciate. It definitely gives off a video game otome vibe that I would play. There are some other female characters that appear but thankfully it’s not a harem situation or anything. I’m just not really a fan of those because what’s the point you know? But anyway, give it a watch.
4. Takt op. Destiny
The year is 2047. The United States has been devastated by the struggle against the D2.
Takt the Conductor and Destiny the Musicart travel together to New York.
In a world without music, Takt longs for it.
Meanwhile, Musicart Destiny hopes to wipe out the D2.

So, I actually haven’t begun to watch this yet but the summary and the promo pictures look promising. I’ve heard great things so far so I am hoping I also fall in love with the series. Plus, I’ve never heard of a show quite like this and another bonus is it is animated by MAPPA so you know it will look magnificent.
5. Banished from the Hero’s Party, I Decided to Live a Quiet Life in the Countryside
After being betrayed by the Hero’s party, Red hopes to start over in a small town…but keeping his former life a secret won’t be easy.
via funimation
I love a good long title so I added it to my watch list. I’ve watched the first few episodes they have to offer and I was right, I love the show. It’s more on the romance side but there’s some action and adventure as well. The main character Gideon, who goes by his alias Red, is basically living his best life in the countryside and he even gets to live it with Rit, and the two are PDA all day. It was actually catching me off guard because I’m not used to couples in anime displaying affection so normally due to the difference in culture, but it was refreshing.
6. The World’s Finest assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat
The world’s number one assassin has been reincarnated as the eldest son of a family of aristocrat assassins. In exchange for being reincarnated in another world, a goddess has imposed upon him one condition.
via crunchyroll
The title alone sounded interesting so that’s what got me. I’ve only watched halfway through the first episode and it starts a little slow but I’m hoping it picks up and we can get into this title because there’s a lot to unpack. If it goes the way I think it will, I’m hoping for the fun twist such as he has to assassinate someone in the family or he cannot assassinate anyone at all or even he just has to not get found out. You know, something to jazz it up.
7. PuraOre! ~Pride of Orange~
Manaka’s competitive spirit ignites when she discovers ice hockey! She’s a rookie, but she’s got a team of girls ready to go for the goal!
via funimation
I finally had a sports show other than Free! to look forward to. I don’t watch a lot of female sports just because they usually ruin it for me with all the fan service shots and unneeded close-ups to their bodies, but this one I mean it’s ice hockey. You can barely see their skin let alone get some weird shots. Also, Ice hockey is a pretty intense sport so I was interested just from the mention of the sport alone. I haven’t had many sports anime to watch this year, and I spent most of the time rewatching some of my favorite ones already released. I’m hoping it’s as good as I know anime sports shows can be.
8. The Night Beyond the Tricornered Window
Kosuke Mikado, a bookstore clerk, is able to see ghosts since he was young, which terrifies him. One day, he meets Rihito Hiyakawa, a fearless exorcist who lacks social boundaries. Hiyakawa is able to see and exorcise ghosts by entering Mikado’s body and requests him to become his assistant. As the two work closely together, they learn that the supernatural incidents are closely tied with a high school student named Erika Hiura, who works as a mercenary necromancer to cast curses on other people. As Mikado and Hiyakawa investigate, Mikado begins realizing that Hiyakawa is hiding a secret.

This one is for my BL lovers!!!! I’ve seen a few episodes and not gonna lie, I was caught way off guard. I didn’t know what was going on but then the wheels started turning and I understood. The show itself is kind of not that subtle about “fun times” between the two main characters but on the other hand, at least it’s not just in your face. I personally wouldn’t care either way but if you are not in Boys Love or Yaoi this might not be for you. Bonus points if you’re into BL AND horror/mystery because this will be a treat for you. So far the animation is nice and I’m getting involved in the storyline and keeping up so we shall see how I feel when it ends.
9. The World Ends with You
Based on the hit game from Square Enix, Neku awakens in The Underground where he must compete to survive—or be erased from existence.
via funimation
The first thing that grabbed my attention was the art style. It gives me Kingdom Heart vibes and it will probably confuse me just like KH did but I do think it looks promising. I also have the game on my wishlist so I was hesitant whether I should play the game or watch the animation first. I think I’ll give the show a watch and then hopefully the game can answer any questions leftover.
10. Sakugan
In the distant future, humankind lives shoulder-to-shoulder in a cramped “Colony” divided by bedrock. Outside the colony extends a dangerous undeveloped area known as “The Labyrinth.” Those who risk their lives to explore the Labyrinth and mark undeveloped areas are known as “Markers.” Memempu is a young girl who wants to become a Marker, and Gagumber is a man who quit being a Marker. This rag-tag father and daughter team are about to take on the Labyrinth! “If there is no path, then dig one!

Another show I have yet to watch but the poster for it caught my attention. The animation style was giving me Cowboy Bebop mixed with Eureka 7 vibes so I might just enjoy it. There’s also a futuristic element to it which you can’t really go too wrong with that. That just lets me know that there can be unrealistic vibes because it’s the future! We all thought we’d have flying cars by now and look at us, still driving on the dangerous ground. Plus, I love father/daughter combos and I feel we don’t get enough of these in anime, especially in this setting.
So there you have my top 10 list of shows I think look promising. Please let me know have you watched any of these and what were your thoughts on them if you have? Also, which show sounds/looks the most interesting to you? Please feel free to leave a like, comment, or share this post, and thanks for reading!
